Identified Flying Objects

INDEX OF ALL

The IFO Picture Library
This library is a collection of real "flying sauser" images, without much technical data or long ghost stories, just so you can see what has been made so far. There are many IFOs designed, but only a few crafts were build and only a few of them flew.

IF these old designs would be re-designed and build again using modern technologies, most of them would surely fly. There are lighter and stronger materials, more fuel efficient engines, computer designed and controlled. Today, even a cube can be made flying as if it was meant to be!

Note: be welcome, but if you have a site, blog, or whatever; please don't link to my images! Instead link to my page or copy them to your own site/computer, otherwise my server says "no (or pay bigtime)" and this site must go off-line, again.
About these images:
I don't own any rights or originals, and I don't sell any of these images.

Project director: John Frost.
AVRO project Y
aka "Plane", "Spade" or "Omega"
1952.
Project Y2 Silverbug, Ladybird.
1954.

DISC (no VTOL)

Some aircraft look like an IFO, but don't fly like one (no VTOL). Others fly like an IFO, but don't look like one (no disc shape). Here are some aircraft that are almost an IFO: disc shaped, but not VTOL
The Russian EKIP/Tarielka
A STOL lifting body.
The Flying Pancake
Vought-Zimmerman V-173 and XF5U-1
(1939-1947)
Project Pye Wacket
(1959 - 1961)

VTOL (no disc)

Some aircraft look like an IFO, but don't fly like one (no VTOL). Others fly like an IFO, but don't look like one (no disc shape). Here are some aircraft that are almost an IFO: VTOL, but not disc shaped
Aerodyne
- Wingless VTOL Aircraft Aerodyne (1972)
- Lippisch Aerodyne (1959)
SNECMA C450 Coléoptère
A jet powered tail-sitter ring-wing. (1955-1957)
Rotary Rocket
A single stage (SSTO) rocket system. Upon re-entry, the rotor may provide both lifting and drag forces, and also permits low velocity, controllable approaches to the landing field. (1999)

More UFO than IFO...
German Discs from WW2?
U.S. built flying wing disc aircraft?
(1946 - 1967) (if true).
NO real photos!
All of these photos are computer generated.
The Schildkrote photo hoax
Not real!

Thrust
Pulse Detonation Engines
The race heats up to replace the jet turbine with a more efficient source of Mach-breaking airpower: the PDE.
Lightcraft Laser Propulsion
Ion Propulsion

Do you have other or better quality photos to ad!? Please do!

Curved Vortex Thrust
A thrust experiment.
Can the efficiënt system of a tornado be bent and used for flight? It seems to good to be true, but the very first experiment was no success.
VTOL DISC GN004
Lessons learned from the GN003
(A design only)
VTOL DISC GN003
A thrust experiment.
The "coanda effect" at work, yes it does work!
No wings, no helicopter rotor, no propeller, no jet, no rocket.. but thrust; yes!
VTOL DISC GN002
Goal: a mid-size disc shaped VTOL aircraft, without wings or rudders.
Specialties:
- gyro stabilized disc.
- gyro flight control.
- four ducted fans for VTOL.
- one air compressing engine system drives all devises.
VTOL DISC GN001 and GNOO1B
Goal: a large fuel efficient disc shaped VTOL aircraft.
Specialties:
- a large rotor to create a large external airstream for VTOL.
- gyro stabilized inner "repel ring" to counter force the rotor's torque.
- controllable rotor wings for stabilization and flight control.
- a turbine gas, or electro magnetically driven rotor.
- small efficient jet engines for forward flight.
